SPCAA Navigator Program Offers Free Services
SPCAA Navigators are federally certified, local and are mobile. We are available to answer questions about the affordable healthcare act. We walk you through the HealthCare.gov application process, step-by-step assisting you to find plans that fit your needs. Our services are free and available in English and Spanish.
Open Enrollment (November 1st to January 15th)
A specific time each year when individuals can sign up for, change, or renew their health insurance plan. It's a window where you can adjust your current plan or enroll in a new one if needed through the health insurance marketplace.
Special Enrollment (January 16th – October 31st)
Need a life-changing circumstance to qualify.
Marriage, divorce or legal separation, new baby, adopting a child, recently moved.
Losing existing health insurance, including Medicaid/CHIP
What to Bring to Your Appointment
- Information about household size
- Address of people applying
- Social security numbers for those applying for coverage
- Any immigration documentation you have, if applicable
- Information on how you file your taxes (single, joint, etc.)
- Employer and income information
- Your best estimate on the current year income
- Information on employer-based insurance if offered
- If you were on Marketplace plan last year, we will need plan details
Eligibility Requirements
The Marketplace was created to be very accessible to millions of people who might not have had easy access to health insurance coverage in the past. However, there are certain requirements that must be met to purchase a plan.
- You must be a U.S. citizen or “lawfully present” immigrant.
- You must live in the United States.
- You cannot currently be incarcerated serving time in a jail or prison.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to have income?
Yes. Because you will have to pay a monthly premium.
Do I need to file yearly taxes?
Yes, the Marketplace will verify and compare yearly income if tax credits are used to reduce monthly premiums.
Is this insurance expensive?
The premium depends of various factors and if tax credits are available to reduce the premium.
What happens if I don’t get insurance?
Presently, there are no penalties in place. However, our navigators can still assist you with exemptions and locating other assistance programs in the area!
Who all qualifies for coverage?
US citizens, US Nationals, and lawfully present immigrants
Can I have other coverage and the marketplace?
No, the Marketplace coverage is only for those not insured.
What if I cannot afford the monthly premium?
The certified Navigators will assist with community resources after all possible options have been exhausted.
Can a Navigator suggest a plan for me?
No, Navigators help with the application process and help with helping find a plan using their current doctors.
