SPARTAN Public Transit provides public transportation in the 17 counties that make up the South Plains Rural Transit District. Service is generally curb-to-curb, and door-to-door service is available on requires for elderly passengers or individuals with disabilities.
SPARTAN offers these types of services:
- Scheduled route service is available for in-town and for out-of-town trips. This service provides trips on shared-ride vehicles that have usual, customary travel paths, such as from one town to another or from designated points in town to predetermined drop-off sites within the town. These routes only run if a customer requests service. The exact routes and times may fluctuate to meet customer needs.
- Commuter service is available to passengers who have standing reservations to get to work or school. Typical customers of commuter service are those who use passes or whose fares are paid using a subscription rate rather than the standard fare. Weekly passes are available. Traditional demand response service is available to passengers who request pick-ups or drop-offs to sites that cannot be incorporated into the scheduled route or commuter service.
- Traditional demand response service is available to passengers who request pick-ups or drop-offs to sites that cannot be incorporated into the scheduled route or commuter service.
Scheduling:
- All passengers are requested to make reservations at least 24 hours in advance for either of these trip options.
- Reservations are honored, on a first call, first served basis based on availability of a driver and vehicle. The 24-hour advance service allows SPARTAN the option of removing permanent seats for additional wheelchair positions, transferring vehicles and drivers to meet customer needs, and to provide appropriate child safety seats if necessary.
At the time the trip is requested and confirmed, passengers are given a pre-determined pick-up time. SPARTAN strives to realize passenger pick-ups within 15 minutes of the scheduled time.
