(LEVELLAND, TEXAS) – The South Plains Community Action Association (SPCAA) is celebrating Head Start Awareness Month this October along with community members across the area.

The SPCAA Head Start program promotes school readiness by providing educational, health, nutritional, and social services to children and their families across the South Plains. Since its inception in 1965, Head Start has served over 37 million children across the United States, making a lasting impact on early childhood education and development.
“Our Head Start program has always been a resource for low-income families and parents in our local community.” said Olivia Barbosa, the SPCAA Head Start Director. “We offer these families vital community connections beyond just early childhood education.” she continued.

In celebration of Head Start Awareness Month, SPCAA will be hosting a special community event aimed at supporting families and raising awareness about the importance of early childhood education. On October 8th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the program will be hosting a Resource Fair at the Eddie Richardson Center located at 1110 40th St. in Lubbock, Texas which will feature local community resources, a mobile food bank, and family-friendly activities.
Families interested in joining the SPCAA Head Start program can review eligibility requirements and applications on the agency website at www.spcaa.org by navigating the Head Start tab.
